"Resolution" and "Megabytes" features

Post by samu-mac »

Hello, i'm glad and want thanks conor for the work on those criteria that i was waiting for!

...but.. i can't manage how to get them working

Actually i do not understand what you intend for "quick time movie import" as i have films in files yet

I renamed the personal checkbox "Resolution" and "Megabytes" and tried to add a new film but they keep empty.

I'm sure i'm missing something in the procedure, can anyone explain how to get this working?

Cheers

How did you add the film? You need to drag the actual file from the Finder over the DVDpedia dock icon. This way when DVDpedia imports the link to the file it will also include the megabyte and resolution information from the actual file. Also be sure to be running the latest beta.

usually i import exactly like this, through finder and dragging on the icon!

Then i have to "add" or "skip" them to fill the emtpy things?

Anyway in both cases neither the old file updated with "skip" or the new added with "add" show any value on the Resolution or Megabytes fields.

Just tried with version 5,1,2 and 5.1.2 BETA 40

Where i'm doing bad?

Thanks for support!

EDIT: my files are MKV files...

just saw that megabytes criteria works with AVI

resolution not work at all

Strange indeed, with the same version I get Megabytes for almost all files. Only a few files have the Resolution information as that needs to be part of the QuickTime metadata. Including on initial import or using "Skip" and having the information added to the existing entry. If I can think of something that might be causing the issue I'll be sure to post back. I tired it in Italian just in case, but the results were the same. I have re-uploaded the latest beta now of the upcoming 5.1.3, now version beta 41 (but I am pretty sure that version 40 had it included).

Ok thanks for support, i'll do further tests later.

OK few updates connor:

about "Megabytes"
MKV files seems work sometimes, like 25% of them (atleast)
So, first problem is understanding why only a few works.
Then, the second problem i noticed is that over 10GB size the program do not recognize the value correctly

For example this is a 18GB film and here is what DVDpedia shows:

"Resolution" did not work at all.

if could help i can share with you a MKV file that is not working (its 2 gig but i can try to cut it for testing)

Thank you for the extra details. I have fixed the bug in the Megabytes and it should now get the information for all files, including large files over 4 gigs. Please try out the latest DVDpedia beta 42.

For the resolution I added a bit of code to also determine it from the Spotlight metadata kMDItemPixelHeight but that is usual not set either. So resolution is quit hit an miss depending on how much information OS X has added to either Spotlight or QuickTime. For the Spotlight data there are the additional custom fields that you can name "Video Height" and "Video Width" to get that information directly into your database but as mentioned it's usually not filled. If I can work in one of the more exoteric libraries that is able to determine that information from MKV and AVI files I will do so.
