The hard drive should spin up when a file is requested, sounds like the time it takes for the drive to come back and deliver the file is too long for DVD Player. Does going back to Front Row after the black screen and requesting the movie again work? We don't make the Front Row plug-in so we have no idea how the request is implemented, but it likely that the plug-in is no longer involved. Disabling sleep mode on the drive is an option or a script that will bring the drive out of sleep the moment you use Front Row, so that it's ready. Not sure if any other settings in OS X or the software can be changed that would help.

thanks for your fast answer and support

i thinks thats realy a problem with frontrow over the base self. i tried to use the remote for get the computer in sleep modus and than start again dvdpedia but nothing happend. do you have a script for activate the disk? and where i have to put in for frontrow i coudnt find a sleeping part in the package. in the other hand could be the disk self over the base. when i have the disk directly on the computer everythings ok but over the base is the problem.

It could be a network issue when the drive is mounted over the airport instead of plugged in directly to the computer. The speed of data received over the airport is minimal compared to when plugged in directly. This coupled with the big size of a VIDEO_TS folder and the wake up spin-up time required could be timing out DVD Player or VLC. I do not have a script, it was just an idea that pop into my head, I have no idea how to go about waking up a drive in a script. Asking for the root directory might work, but that information might be cached by the OS. AppleScript is a good place to start, then you would use that script to launch Front Row:

Code: Select all

tell application "Finder"
   open location "afp://user:password@server/share"
end tell
tell application "System Events"
tell application "Front Row" to activate
end tell
