[DVDpedia] Bug With Links

Post by Tamburra »

First off I want to thank Bruji for such an unbelievable program. I have been using Movie Collectorz for a while but got a little fed up with there set up and the way you enter in information. I then turned to Delicious Library 2 and loved there isight feature, but the program took about a minute load up before i could see my extensive library. Then i checked out some other programs and fell in love with DVDpedia. I love iTunes and how I use it to organize my music and to see DVDpedia with that iTunes type look to it, I just fell in love. The program does just about everything I want it to do.

I've been using the software in many ways and have run into a few bugs that I thought would be helpful if I mentions some of them. I did a little bit of reading on the forum and didn't see anything that had to do with the little things that I ran into so I decided to list a few i noticed.

1. I have a box of some double feature movies known as the "Guinea Pig Series." Its gory grindhouse stuff. But I created an entry of each film by itself in the and put them in a New Collection known as "Box Set Features." I then excluded these entries from the library.

I then created an entry in the Library called "Guinea Pig Series [Box Set]" and linked the excluded files to this Library entry by "uid."

The problem I am having is that when the links are clicked you are brought to a NO SELECTION info screen. The links are correct because when i exclude the "Guinea Pig Series [Box Set]" the links work fine.

This is weird because I did a test and did everything over again, but I added the "Guinea Pig Series [Box Set]" first and then added each movie which was in the box set and excluded those so that the one box set entry was in the library and the movies within it were linked and everything worked fine.

I couldn't figure out why this was happening. I hope I explained that one in detail enough where someone else can check this out lol and see if this is just me or is this a bug.

2. With the same set up as #1 above I have noticed when clicking a link that is set in a library movie entry to a separate collection entry you get the wrong cover art displayed but the correct info for the movie is displayed.

3. Why can't I have a smart collection for entries that are excluded from the library?

I think that's about it for now lol. I hope to be of some sort of help to the developers as I love this software and hope to see flourish. Keep up the amazing work.

Thank you for the detailed bug report. Unfortunately with the exact steps I was not able to recreate the bug. I tried many other combinations: including collections, excluding collections, different excluded collections and I did find one bug, that might be the one you are referring to as the result was no selection. That if they are all in the same collection and the collection is filtered to not show the linked movie then the link will not work. For example with all the movies in the library and the search field set to "Guinea Box Set", the links don't work as the movies are in the same collection but not displayed. I have fixed this in the beta so that the filter is removed if necessary when searching for a movie.

Try out the beta version and if you see the bug again let us know. Here are the exact steps I am taking, if you do anything slightly different let me know:

1. Create regular collection "Box Set Features" .
2. Added "Guinea Pig Devils Experiment", "Guinea Pig Flower of Flesh" and "The Guinea Pig Box Set".
3. Select all, and make sure to select the box set last then drag and drop from the table view onto the info view to create the links. (links work)
4. Exclude the collection. (links work).
5. Drag "The Guinea Pig Box Set" to library (it's the only Guinea in library as the other are excluded).
6. Click links and the "Box Set Features" collection is automatically selected and the movie selected.

What do the links to the movie look like, something like this: "dvdpedia://bruji.com/uid=3267"?

2. Unable to repeat, but do try the beta on this as this is the version I work with.

3. Under the program's preference in the General tab there is a check box to include excluded collections in smart collections. Check it to include all movies in your database in smart collection, then to limit some smart collections to a particular collection use the rule "movie is in collection Library".

I downloaded the BETA version and it is the version I have already, "4.4.1." I followed your steps and it worked. Hmm. I guess I cannot put my finger on what exactly caused the problem.

The Links do look the way your explaining.

I just came across another bug this is constantly occurring:

In my library I have numerous entries. They are organized in alphabetical order according to the title. In the Library I have an entry for the show "Lost" and within that entry I have links pointing to excluded entries of each episode in a Collection known as "TV Show Episodes." The problem is when the link is clicked in the library entry to go to the episode in the excluded collection I get the info of the movie "28 Days Later" which is classified at the top of my list of entries in the Library, but I am directed to the proper collection. It even highlights the proper entry in the Table View but just shows the info and cover art for "28 Days Later." The problem is occurring only to this excluded entry because this episode is classified at the top of the list of episodes in the "TV Show Episodes" collection. All other links are redirected fine except this entry only because it is at the top. If I add another entry to the "TV Show Episodes" collection and that entry is then classified up top of the list of entries it will occur to this entry then if linked from the Library.

Explained again just incase the above explanation is garbage lol. sorry.

Library
------> 28 Days Later
------> Lost <--- (with link to excluded episode which is categorized at the top of the list in table view)

TV Show Episodes (excluded)
------> Lost Episode

When link is clicked in Library entry "Lost" which is directed to "TV Show Episodes" you are directed to the proper entry highlighted and all but with the wrong cover art and entry info.

Another small thing I noticed is when clicking links and such and being brought to different collections the Info at the very bottom fo the window doesn't change according to what new collection you are now in.

EXAMPLE: 0 Movies | 0 Borrowed | 0 Wanted | Value: 0.00 | 0 Days

Thank you for adding even more specifics, now I was able to replicate the bug with the first entry in the table not updating after following a link. The bug and the related bug of the bottom info not being updated has been fixed in the beta. The version number when doing small changes to the beta does not change from the release version, so only by the modification date can you tell it's new.
