What exactly is this field designed for? I tried to search the built in Help and the forums, but am finding nothing.

The Page Mark field is supposed to be for the page you're on. It's probably not a field a lot of users actually use since a bookmark does pretty much the same trick.. But it can come in handy if you want to remember a specific page (or pages) later on or if you know you're not going to finish the book but want to return to it later.
