Changing the case of entries

Post by crutcher »

I'm wondering if there is a way to change the case of field entries. For example, when the author field is downloaded from Amazon or wherever, sometimes the author's name is the expected upper and lower case letters; but sometimes it's all caps. I'm wondering if there is some way within Bookpedia to ensure that the entries are all the same (Normal upper and lower--e.g. Timothy Smith). If this can't be accomplished by changing settings in Bookpedia, has anyone who's experienced this problem found an easy way to change field text using another tool. There are utilities that will change text from upper case to upper/lower but how to do this without an endless amount of copying and pasting? Thansk for any suggestions. BTW, this would be a nice feature addition for a future version of Bookpedia if it can't be accomplished in the current version.

We experimented with a feature to correct the author from Amazon when it was capitalized but it would change the case on cases that it shouldn't like MacDermot, where the capitalization is not at the beginning of the word.

With the current database there is only a way to lower case or upper case them all, not set the proper capitalization. You could export the values (using SQL) into a text file to use in the text changing utilities and then import them again.
