Bookpedia: Question re "Update from"

Post by Hendrix »

Is there a way, in Bookpedia (if not, I will repost this as a "Feature Request" in the correct forum) of telling the "Update from" function NOT to replace any fields that are already populated?

An issue I frequently run across is if the "Series" name in, for example, Doghouse, is different from what I believe the series name to be, the "Update from" function will overwrite my series name with the (different) one from Doghouse.

I have, on more than one occasion, bought a duplicate book as I believed I was missing this particular book from a series, when in fact the "Update from" function simply overwrote a different series name on one or more of the books in the series.

Regards

Hi Hendrix,

Thank you for all the details and explanation but there must be something else going on; Bookpedia will never replace any field that has a value in it. So do keep a close eye on it, and if you see it happen again do "hit undo" and please send me the .bcard for the book (drag the book to your desktop to create this file). This way I can try the update from with the same information. Nevertheless, I gave it a quick double check with "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" and "A Fire Upon the Deep" (9781857981278) and it did not replace any information, including series. The only way to get it to update series to the original was to empty it out first.
