Hi there. I am playing with the demo version at the moment as I want to make sure a couple of things work - so far I have n't been able to get one thing working which would be a deal breaker. We have several computers in the house. One, which I mostly use is downstairs, and another which my wife mainly users is upstairs near the TV/stereo. I am wanting to use DVDpedia as a catalogue of all our DVDs and ensure that both computers can browse the catalogue (only I will retain editing rights). This works on Delicious but I don't like the GUI. I just installed DVDpedia on my machine and imported the library from Delicious. I have also permissioned the ~/library/application support/dvdpedia folder to be shared (read only for everyone other than me). When I go to the computer upstairs, install the app, boot it with the option key held down and then navigate to the relevant database.dvdpd file I get an error message: "Failed to Save. Unkown store type, format or version." What's wrong?
I presume, as with Delicious, a single license can be used across all computers in a household. I presume also that the program works with BD disks (as DVDs are rather dated now). Correct?
Thanks in advance
Steve
Testing DVDpedia
Re: Testing DVDpedia
Hi Steve,
Thank you for the explanation. Indeed you should be able to read the database file with the other computers. Sounds like a mounting issue or network issue from Core Data. Core Data, Apple's database technology, handles the concurrency and multiple access. Try mounting the other computer as Samba or AFP or switching between the two mounts for testing. If that does not work try giving it write/read permissions for testing and then switching back to read only. This way you would be able to debug what issues Core Data is having with loading the file over the network. Otherwise look at your console log as well after the error and let me know the exact error code, it should be printed out there and would be a number.
You can catalog any format including Blu-ray, and just plain movies without format as well. The name remains from 10 years ago when we started DVDpedia, it would be confusing to change it now.
The license can be used across all computers in a household as well as any computer you personally use, such as the office computer.

Re: Testing DVDpedia
Hi. Thanks for the response. Given both computers are Macs I am sharing using AFP. When I changed the permissions to Read/Write then I got an error message (when trying to add the library on the other computer) saying "The file Database.dvdpd could not be opened". When I changed it back to Read Only, it worked - go figure. Thanks!
Any support for CDs/SACDs?

Re: Testing DVDpedia
Networking is like magic – it's why I try to avoid it.
CDpedia will catalog CDs, but like DVDpedia tends to be a bit format agnostic so that it will fit a broader crowd. Although many of the search sites do have LPs and other formats cataloged, not sure they have SACDs.

Re: Testing DVDpedia
of course - thanks again. I'll purchase DVDpedia shortly.
Re: Testing DVDpedia
BTW I demoed Delicious Library 2 as well - much prefer this app. The only thing that seems to work much better on that application is the iSight scanner. I just can't seem to get the knack of scanning with DVDpedia versus Delicious. My very old iSight (the old cylinder type) works just fine with Delicious with almost instantaneous recognition whereas with DVDpedia it's faster to simply type the title in. In fact, I have simply given up using it already...
Re: Testing DVDpedia
Thank you for the feedback. We are working on a few updates, I'll let you know when the beta is ready so that you can test that our for us on the older firewire cameras.
