Bracketed logical OR in Smart Collection

Post by marksealey »

Can anyone think of a way, please, to build a Smart Collection (in BookPedia) of three criteria, only two of which are logical or, viz:

priority (a custom field indicating how urgent the book is to read) = 0

and

subject is either 'History' or 'archaeology, for example'?

Because the settings have to be either and or "or" you have to build two smart collections. Build the first one for the subjects with the rules "subject is history" or "subject is archaeology" and name the collection "history and archaeology". Then build the second smart collection with "book is in collection "history and archaeology" and "priority is equal to 0". The only downside is that you have to click the first smart collection to update it before clicking on the second smart collection, we hope to be able to update smart collection that are based on other smart collections in the future or have the ability to mix and and or.

Thanks, Conor - but

I don't have that as an option for my Smart Collection. Only 'Collection ID, which doesn't work'.

TIA

The "Book" option should be the ninth one down when you click on the first drop down menu in the smart collection window (just above "Borrowed By"). Once you've chosen "Book", the second drop down menu will automatically change to "is in collection" and then you can enter the name of the collection into the field.
