Pocketpedia Vanishing Collection

Post by mcdermos »

So I was happily adding things to pocketpedia to a few different collections when I accidently placed a book in the wrong collection. So I went into that collection and tried to move it to the correct one. After I clicked move the collection I moved it to vanished. I just thought maybe I messed up so I created the collection again with the same name. Then I noticed the books I was trying to re-add where being indicated as already being in a collection. So when I press the star it just takes me back to my collections list but I cannot find the book anywhere. So what I would like to know is:

-Can you remove a book from your collection from a search result? I thought I did it once but I couldn't recreate what I thought I did
-Is there anyway to start over? like removing all collections and all items within them, a reset

Great app by the way, really useful for when I want to remember what books/dvds I already own when i'm impulse buying

There of course should be no vanishing collection. We haven't been able to reproduce the bug, if you can do let us know the exact steps and book information. Are you on a Mac? If so please email us the Pocketpedia database file. Use the demo version of any of our programs, and under the help menu while holding down the option key choose "Pocketpedia". If you then initiate a sync from Pocketpedia it will transfer the database file to your desktop. We will then have more information and might even be able to get the file back to you in a fixed state.

You can restore a backup from iTunes. If you haven't yet connected the device to iTunes you can do so and then right away cancel the sync and backup. From iTunes you can ctrl-click your device on the source list and choose restore from backup to restore the database to the last backup version in iTunes, this will of course also roll back any changes you made in other applications to the last backup.

To reset the database delete Pocketpedia from your iPod Touch or iPhone, this will delete the accompanying files as well. When you download Pocketpedia again from the App Store it will use a brand new database.

Sadly I use windows so I can't use your programs.

The exact steps I took where
-created a collection called it Doctor Who
-added all my Dr Who dvds (about 44)
-created another collection called it Sci Fi books
-added all the scifi books I could remember I owned (about 30)
-created a collection called Horror
-was adding Clive Barker books (about 3)
-accidently placed one book (the damnation game) into Sci Fi books
-went to my collections and made my way to the book and clicked the green icon, got the optioins and picked move
-it went back to the collections, i picked Horror and the Horror collection vanished
-when I started that collection again, I did the same search and the books that where in the collection that vanished where being indicated as being in a collection (the star)

I've synced a few times since :/ thankfully I haven't done much so starting over isn't too much of a problem. If you do ever get windows versions i'll be sure to pick them up.

Thank you for the detailed steps. Will try to reproduce the bug and fix it for the next version. Sorry to hear you don't have a Mac. :)
