When I use my handheld scanner (with DVDPedia) it doesn't work. I click the "+" (Add) button and with the cursor in the "Search for:" text box I pull the trigger. The search window disappears and I get a window showing the details of a movie in my library (the currently selected movie) as if I had pressed enter on the main page.
I have checked the scanner with TextEdit to make sure it is working properly and in that application it displays the UPC number with a newline.
The make/model number on the scanner is Adaptus 3800g.
Any ideas?

Try resetting the scanner to its default using the following manual. On page 1-8 there is a barcode to reset the settings. I would guess it's sending some kind of prefix that is interpreted as a command by DVDpedia maybe (command-e) that in TextEdit would not do anything. For there is nothing special about DVDpedia in this setup it shouldn't be able to tell the difference between the scanner and a really fast typer entering the numbers followed by return.
