Curious 'alphabetical' behaviour - Bookpedia

Post by Snodgrass »

Apologies if I've missed this in the FAQ thing:

If I add a book (epub) called, say, 'The Hat', it might get listed by Bookpedia among the Ts.

But some books, for example 'The Dog', get listed among the Ds.

The metadata for both (set by calibre) is in the same format: 'The Hat', 'The Dog'.

What am I doing wrong?

Happy days,

Snod.

Curious indeed. "The " should always be ignored in the title field.

Do turn on the "sort title" field under Bookpedia -> Preferences -> Fields, by checking the box next to it. You can then display the sort title field as a column or view it in the edit panel and make sure there is no value there such as "The Hat" that would make it list under T. Nothing is ignored in the sort title field and I EPUB do carry this field although it's mostly empty.

If that not the case try typing out "The " again in the title for the "The Hat" and pressing save to find out if maybe there is some character encoding or secret space that is confusing the ignore article feature.

Greetings, and a thousand thanks for your speedy reply.

However, I can discern no difference. The 'sort title' area is blank - I don't know if it should show anything. I shall try to read more about databases and things.

Enjoy your weekend. Cheers,

Oh dear. Apologies.

I quit Bookpedia and re-started. It's now running as it should.

Apologies for troubling you.

I must remember - turn it off, wait five seconds, then switch it on again. Cures most things...

Cheers,

Snod.
