Re-migrating 'database' to v5, after v4 updates

Post by KrazyKiwi »

Hi,

Just purchased my upgrade to v5. Your programs rock, and so it was a no-brainer deal for me, but...
I immediately discovered that Amazon search is not available by default. Not cool*.

Because I wanted to enter in a CD quickly I launched v4.6.8 and entered it successfully there.
However, it doesn't show up in version 5 presumably because each program has its own database files/formats etc

There are no changes in v5's database that I want.
Can I throw appropriate file(s) away and then launch CDpedia (v5) again to re-generate the new database with my recent v4 updates?
If so, which files do I toss?

FYI: Previously (for v4 versions at least) I've moved my 'Application Support' directory for all 'pedias to a different place (on another drive).

(*Yes, I've since signed up with Amazon, but its a nuisance; I assume that Amazon has foisted this on you so am not attaching blame)

The reason we've moved the Amazon searches to be a sign up option rather than an incorporated one is because we've had several issues with their services in the past, most importantly regarding our iPhone app which we had to remove from the App Store twice because of complaints from Amazon. With this new system, those issues will hopefully be taken care of for good.
Another reason for this is also that users now get the commissions on sales made through Amazon instead of us since it's your associate ID in the program and not ours.

Of course you're welcome to return to version 4.6.8 though. The two programs do not share the same datafile which is why anything you add in one program does not show up in the other. You can force version 5 to re-update your 4.6.8 data file by deleting the version 5 file (~/Library/Application Support/CDpedia/Database.cdpd) while CDpedia is not running and then restarting version 5. It'll make another copy of your Database.pediadata file (which is the 4.6.8 version) and update it into a Database.cdpd file.

To move any entries from version 5 to version 4.6.8, use a .cdpedia export.
