Linking movie files to DVDpedia
How does the linking in DVDpedia work exactly?
I'm asking because I just put all my movies on an external HD. Does DVDpedia save the links in the form of "Volumes/Name_of_HD"? So, that when I transfer my database to a new Mac, the links will still work?

Re: Linking movie files to DVDpedia
Moving Macs will not be a problem. DVDpedia stores links as a URL to the movie file. You can view the URL in the "links" section of the edit window. In this case they would look as you mentioned, "file:///Volumes/Name_of_HD/...".

Fantastic
And now that all my files are linked: is there a way to set the date in the "last seen"-field automatically, each time I open a linked file?

I'll look into it, technically it's easy but I am not sure users would be expecting this behavior. I know the logical next thought is to include it as a preference, but not ending up with a preference window that looks like VLCs "all" mode is part of the balance challenge. Thank you for the idea.

Hehe. Maybe a plugin? Or could it be done by AppleScript?
Re: Linking movie files to DVDpedia
I wouldn't, at least when opening a linked file for "test" purposes vs. normal playback. Reminds me of the issue with iTunes automatically marking a video as watched when I don't want it to be. And with EyeTV marking recordings as watched simply by editing them. Ugh.Conor wrote:… but I am not sure users would be expecting this behavior.

A plug-in would be a good idea. Although at the moment there is no interface to tie the plug-in to clicking the generated link on the info view. You would have to call the plug-in via a plug-in menu command or a custom link in an info view that says "play movie" that calls the above menu command of the plug-in.

Is it possible to have linked files always play with VLC rather than iTunes or Quicktime?

Re: Linking movie files to DVDpedia
Sometimes undoing certain automatic actions eventually becomes less inconvenient than doing them manually/explicitly. Automatically marking videos as watched, with any app, hasn't quite reached that point for me yet.udo wrote:Good point.
