Normalize Amazon URLs

Post by jenv »

The Pedias often end up with incomprehensible URLs like

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html% ... 0470226641

and

http://www.amazon.com/B-S-Ruthless-Mana ... 214&sr=1-1

If you know the ASIN all Amazon URLs can be normalized to

http://www.amazon.com/dp/ASIN/

It would be nice if the Pedias could do that, on a single or multiple-item basis.

The reason we keep all the extra data in the Amazon URL is that it allows Amazon to track the fact that the link came from our account using their data API. They don't provide the API because they want to make the internet an information rich place, they provide it because they want to see sales boosts. With this information they know we are not only using their API service for our benefit but also for theirs as they get a link back as well.
