Search PP by song name?

Post by jschaffe »

Yesterday I downloaded and installed CDPedia on My PowerMac G5 in trial or not-yet-paid mode. I then imported an approx. 23,000 track iTunes library into it. Since the trial description says CDP only supports 25 CDs in trial mode, I was surprised that all my music appeared after the import. When I tried certain features, for example locating a CD on Amazon, I received an error message that CDP trial-mode only supports 25 albums, and the feature didn't work. I suppose that's fair enough for the moment, and I expect that other features are disabled as well.

I then installed PocketPedia on my 32 GB 1st gen iPod Touch and synced it with CDP. Syncing brought my entire library down to PP on my iPod as well. Again, there's no Amazon link, so I'm assuming that there are equivalent limitations due to trial-mode in CDP.

One question I have is: If I delete all but 25 CDs, will all the CDP and PP functions work?

A more mission critical PocketPedia function that seems to be missing is track search. If I search for words in the name of a song only results with those words in the album title appear in the list. Is PP capable of searching for individual songs?

Thanks!

The demo version limits the editing mode of CDpedia when the entries grow over 25. We keep the import of a large number of entries unblocked so that users can test the speed of CDpedia and the import from other programs or text formats. Also some users send their CDpedia libraries to friends to browse on an demo copy. With the demo version you should still be able to run the "get advance info" from under the advance menu to gather more information and create the link with Amazon.

Once you delete all but 25 CDs you will have a fully functional CDpedia once again.

Because the iPod Touch is not such powerful device by default the search is limited to the main fields (those you see in the list view: title and artist). To activate a full search go to your settings program on the iPod Touch and there will be a Pocketpedia category; turn on the "search all fields", now tracks will be included in the search.

At the moment, with my full library on my iPod and in CDPedia, the PocketPedia settings do not display a control for "search all fields". Will that change when I get back to my Mac and delete all but 25 albums?

My mistake, it's in the current version I am working on. So it will be in the next Pocketpedia update. There isn't a release date as I am not finished with the new features and the App Store submission process makes it impossible to set an exact release date. Now you know one of the upcoming features of Pocketpedia.

Cool, a new feature!

Thanks for the information and the quick turn around. I'll try reducing my library size and doing a clean reinstall of PocketPedia to clean up the large artwork and any other residuals that might result from a large database.
