CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
Hi,
I have an interesting problem. I've been cataloguing my CDs all day using a Bluetooth cordless scanner. It has been working absolutely fine all day - until 30 minutes ago. Suddenly, with no settings being changed, no restarts, nothing out of the ordinary at all, CDpedia has started to find no match for my scans. Not even if I rescan discs I successfully scanned an hour ago. It gives me a list of 'no matches' if I click on the exclamation mark button, but no joy even if I click on 'search again'.
Any idea of what has happened and how I can fix it?
LOVING the pedia sync with iPhone, by the way. Can I request a CDpedia/BOOKpedia feature for consideration? It would be fantastic to be able to choose to sort the iPhone version by title OR ARTIST in CDpedia (title or AUTHOR in BOOKpedia)...
Thanks,
Cerise.

Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
Try restarting CDpedia. Are you still getting no match? If so send us some sample UPCs so that we can try it out.
When syncing Pocketpedia will take the sort from CDpedia or Bookpedia so sort by author before the sync. Thank you for the Pocketpedia suggestion, we will include that in the next version that you can change on the fly in Pocketpedia.

I've restarted CDpedia and also restarted the computer. Still no match on any barcode. However, DVDpedia, Gamepedia and DVDpedia all still read and match barcodes perfectly.Conor wrote:Try restarting CDpedia. Are you still getting no match?
Here are two to try - they are recent releases that scanned in and matched just fine, the morning before the problem appeared.Conor wrote:If so send us some sample UPCs so that we can try it out.
5099923436527 (Ultravox: Vienna Remastered Definitive Edition)
5099923437029 (Ultravox: Rage in Eden Remastered Definitive Edition)
Ah thank you, that's a good suggestion.Conor wrote:When syncing Pocketpedia will take the sort from CDpedia or Bookpedia so sort by author before the sync.
Brilliant, thank you. It would be REALLY handy to be able to switch between the two.Conor wrote:Thank you for the Pocketpedia suggestion, we will include that in the next version that you can change on the fly in Pocketpedia.
Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
I was able to lookup both barcodes. Open your regular find window and make sure the search site is set to "Amazon US" or "Cascasde". If still fails after that take a look at your console log after trying the search for any errors from CDpedia. You can read the console log with the program of the same name in your utilities folder.
Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
Hi Conor,
It's set to Amazon UK, as are my other pedias. Hmm.
After a failed barcode search, the Console says simply:
04/01/2009 11:54:55 CDpedia[40690] Error - failed to close the device connection with error e00002c0.
Any ideas..?
Thanks for helping.
Cheers,
Cerise.

Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
That error is that the device is busy and the connection will close later, it's unrelated to the search. Try the search by typing in the barcode in the regular search window as well as the add multiple do they both fail? If they don't fail, what about scanned into the regular search window?
Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
Ahh, I think we've solved the mystery. It was still doing the same thing in Multiple Add, iSight scan, manual add etc - then I noticed that Manual Add was set to 'Title only'. I set this to 'none' and tried barcode scanning again - and it worked. Yay!
Apologies for that; I had no idea that the settings in Manual Add would also affect the other types of input...
Cheers!

Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
Excellent, that you found the issue. It's our fault for making the program less intuitive. We didn't want to replicate all the possible settings from the find window for the multiple add window, but we didn't want to limit the options either. Like all good software, we are always trying to find a balance.
Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
No problem at all! I appreciate that software is always a bit of a balancing act.
I used to love (LOVE!) Delicious Library 1.0, but in 2.0 the balance went a little... awry. Much of what was fantastic about 1.0 was lost in 2.0 and in its place lots of new features that held no use for me whatsoever (cataloguing of tools?! Export to HTML to upload and access via your iPhone - but in no particular item order and with no search facility?). I think it lost its way a little, which is a huge shame. Still, it's because of this that I discovered the Pedias, from someone else's recommendation on the DL forum - and once I tried the demo I quickly switched. You have a fantastic product and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. It's so easy to use, the info so editable and it's all so well integrated with the iPhone that I've recaptured that DL1.0 feeling again. LOVING the Pedias!
Can I be cheeky and make two (OK, three - no, four) more feature requests? I promise I'll leave you in peace then!
1. What are the chances of having a Bluetooth scanner connection button on the button bar at the top of each Pedia, rather than hidden away in the Help menu? And the ability to do other things whilst the Bluetooth window is open, rather than having to close it first, do whatever you need to, then open it again a minute later?
2. How about a notification alert if you happen to scan (or add) an item that's already in the library - with the ability to choose whether to add it as a duplicate, don't add, or replace the original?
3. In PocketPedia, is there any way to sync all open Pedias with the iPhone in one go, rather than having to click on each one in turn?
4. The iTunes integration in CDpedia is fantastic but the play controls are rather hidden away in the item info. Any chance of a more prominent set of play / stop / skip etc buttons?
Err, I think that's it. I started with two then thought of more...
Thanks again!
Cheers,
Cerise.

Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
It just occurred to me that there's probably a Feature Request area of the forum - should I repost the above in there?
Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
We read the entire forum and take notes. We have moved your feature request to our internal list of things to get done. We are working on some, like the ability to do things while the multiple add window is open, originally we locked it because we did not want users changing collection in the middle of the add and then CDs would be added to two different collections. Sync all button is also a good idea and should not be to hard to implement for the next Pocketpedia version. I been thinking about the play button for a while and have thought of maybe adding a play button next to each track in the info view or some customizable toolbar buttons, this one I am still trying to figure out what would be best. Sorry I had not commented on the fact that I had read the post. The short answer would have been, there is no need to repost your feature requests.
Re: CDpedia Bluetooth scan lookup suddenly failing
Thanks Conor! (on all counts).
