create collection from list of EAN codes (books, CDs)

Post by groovyruby »

I have a list of the EAN codes of all my CDs and all my books and wonder whether I can avoid rescanning all of them with the not-so-good iSight scanner and auto-feed the EAN numbers from those files into the Pedias.

Of course, there are two methods. The add multiple under the edit menu will bring up a window that has an add field. The single line input field is small but it will take a list of new line separated values and enter them all at once. So you can copy paste a 10,000 EAN list into there if you would like.

The other option is to import the text file into the pedias and map it to the UPC or ISBN field. This will create all the entries with only the UPC/ISBN value filed out. Then select them all and you can use the "get more info" under advance to fill out the details.

Both options are almost exactly the same, the advantage of the add multiple is that it takes into account your search settings in the find window. So set on cascade it will search your preferred sites in order until it finds a result and also let you know what EANs it was unable to find on any site. The latest version has been tuned for those using a barcode scanner or bluetooth scanner and not really sitting at their computer so it has an audio an large visual feedback, so you might want to mute your computer while adding a long list.

Thank you, this works like a charm.

Funny side effect: I had plenty of empty lines in my text file. CDPedia created the same Xavier Naidu album for each empty line. Now guess whether I like Naidu ...
