Is there some way that I can tell, when I'm looking at a specific book from the "library" list, which collections it is in?

There is no automatic way to tell at the moment what collection a book belongs to. You can use one of the custom fields to label them with the collection. As long as books are not in multiple collections you can use the multi-edit function with select all to do it quickly.
