Filter Criteria of an empty cell, exclusion

I want to set up A Smart Collection, but I want it to display only entries in the database (bookpedia) that have an item in a particular field.

I figured choosing the field, then an 'is not' and then I used two quotations ("" or " ") which is used in other database programs but here that didn't work. Anyone know how to do this for a search, parameter based on blank cells?

Leave out the quotes. Just an empty field will tell the smart collection that's what you're looking for. (For example, to get all entries without a genre value, set the smart collection to "Genre is [blank]").
