Bookpedia download from the App Store not working

Post by Sandy »

I have just downloaded the Bookpedia application from the App Store and it doesn't appear to be working.

I have now got a Bookpedia icon on my Dock which I don't think was there before. When I click on it it loads Bookpedia version 4.5.4. and says it is not registered (I did have this installed previously).

When I went to the downlods folder and did a 'Get info' on the icon there on the file called bookpedia-2 it reports it as version 5.0.1. Double clicking on this icon does little than appear to start to open it and then nothing. I have tried a restart and dragging the icon to the Applications folder.

My system has dual Intel Xeon processors and is running 10.6.8 and according to software update is fully up to date.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Start by deleting the Bookpedia version 4.5.4 from your Applications folder to avoid confusion. Then try running the regular Bookpedia, version 5.0.1, again. If it still doesn't run, delete that one as well and download the program once more from the App Store. (You can do this via the 'Purchased' tab where are your previously purchased programs are listed.)

If the program still doesn't start up after the re-download, please have a look at your console log, see if there are any messages from Bookpedia. You can access the console log via the application 'Console', located inside your Applications/Utilities. The newer messages are towards the end of the log.

Thanks for the pointer - it gave me some ideas where to look.

It appears that the problem was that I still had the old version in my downloads folder which is what caused it to go wrong. Once I deleted that, and I think that was the important one as I also deleted it from the Applications folder and the dock, it now all appears to be working with the old database.
