Importing to DVDpedia

Post by RickB »

Recently discovered that DVDpedia is superior to most mac collection software out there. Unfortunately I bought Movielicious first. Can I import from Movielicious to DVDpedia? If so how?

Thanks for your help.

It depends on the export options Movielicious provides. The easiest will probably be text format export, either tab or comma (CSV) delimited. Most programs have one of those options.

After you export your data, use the 'Import collection' command found under the File menu in DVDpedia to import your data. You can do this with the demo version of DVDpedia too if you want to check that the import works. (Once you have more than 25 entries in the database though you won't be able to use the add or edit features until you unlock it so maybe try it with a small sample export first.)

Nora thanks for the quick response. I checked the Movielicious export procedures. It exports two ways, select export and it automatically creates and downloads a backup.zip file to your documents file, or select pdf and it downloads a pdf version of the file. Any suggestions?

The PDF file is unfortunately right out as an export option. If you want, send us the .zip file the program creates for the backup and also the Movielicious data file, probably located in your Home folder under ~/Library/Application Support/. It'll probably be in CoreDate format which means an importer won't be easy to write but maybe we'll get lucky. :)

Thanks Nora. I can send you those files. To what address should I send them?

Nora,
Can't locate any data files for Movielicious nor can I send you the zip file. The file is 58 mb zipped and to large for any of my mail servers. I guess we are at an impass. Guess I will go back to single entry to transfer unless you have any other suggestions.

You could upload the file to our server directly instead of emailing it but since there's little chance it'll work for an import that might be more trouble than it's worth.

I would contact the developer of Movielicious and ask if there are any plans for expanding the export feature. (A good thing to have in any program really...) Maybe you're in luck.
