Hi,
can you please tell me what criteria are used to do the search in the online sources when updating information? For the last 3 days i've been trying to import my record collection from discogs (2000+ items) to cdpedia. Discogs allows to export my collection in XML or CSV. Since there is no converter for the discogs XML Export (and i'm not able to write one) i had to use the CSV-file. I managed to get it into the pedia and thought i could update the information using the discogs search. Unfortunately the discogs plugin freezes when i try to update one or more records although there has to be an entry in the database. When i try to update single records or multiple records from other sources i get strange results (I can send screenshots if necessary). For example, when i try to update the above mentioned discogs-release 1609545 "Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - It's Time For..." from doghouse or Freebase i get the info for a B-52's record called "Time Capsule" and from BOL NL "Michael Buble" !? To minimize errors i removed all data but artist and title before the query. I'm on Lion and Cdpedia 5.0, hope you can help...
thanks, joerg
Search criteria Cdpedia and discogs plugin error
Re: Search criteria Cdpedia and discogs plugin error
I didn't know that DiscoGS provided an XML export option. Could you send us that file? We'd be happy to take a look at that to try and build an importer for CDpedia. You'll find our email address on the support page.
As for updating entries, I recommend using the gear button in the Edit window to gather further information about individual entries instead of the 'Update from' option. The reason for this is that the 'Update from' feature will automatically download the first result returned whereas the gear button will display all the results (if there is more than one) in the little drawer on the side of the edit window so that you can choose the correct one.
I just tried your example of "Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - It's time for", added it from DiscoGS and then did a search on Freebase via the gear button in the edit window and the correct result was the third one on the list. Please let me know if that doesn't improve your search results.

Re: Search criteria Cdpedia and discogs plugin error
Thank you for the fast answer! Searching with the gear button works indeed better, especially after updating to 5.01. In 5.0 the discogs search froze sometimes, but now it works fine. I sent a mail with the XML, hope it's useful. Thanks again, by reading in this forum i realized that you are doing a great job supporting all of us very well.
cheers joerg
