Add Current Page As a Link For Selection not working

Post by kbarnes70 »

Hi guys,

If I select a link from my main info view page, such as, for example, IMDb, that page opens in DVDpedia as usual. If I then surf around for a while, still in DVDpedia, say to a review of the movie itself, and then I right click on that web page, one of the options in the context dialog is: "Add Current Page As a Link For Selection". I can't make this work - in fact it doesn't appear to do anything at all mosyt of the time. It's inconsistent though - if, for example, I go to Black Hawk Down and then open IMDb in DVDpedia by clicking on the IMDb link, the IMDb page for the movie opens. If I then click on Josh Hartnet it takes me to the actor's page in IMDb. If I right click and then select Add Current Page As a Link For Selection, it does add a link to that page in my DVDpedia links section. But if I click on External Reviews for that movie (still in DVDpedia) and then select Roger Ebert, it takes me to Roger's review. If I then right click and select Add Current Page As a Link For Selection, no link is added to DVDpedia. I would find this tremendously useful if it worked consistently as I could surf around using DVDpedia's internal browser and add links to reviews at will - far easietr than opening the reviews in Safari and then dragging the url to the Info View Pane. Any ideas? Thanks.

EDIT: oddly, I just tried this again and while the Roger Ebert external link from IMDb doesn't get added when I use Add Current Page As a Link For Selection, the James Gandolfini review DOES get added. Is it something to do with the way some of the external sites work? I also just checked the Variety review and that gets added as a link too. ???

Kind Regards,

Keith

The Roger Ebert page has a number of redirections that make it hard to determine what the URL for the page should have been with our internal web view that also includes a navigation bar. In the future we want to update the bar and not make it part of the HTML, in which case that command will work again with Roger Ebert's page. In the meantime control click on the original link still on the "external reviews" page and use the "Add link as link for selection" command instead that will be able to add the link before the redirections are applied. I have also updated the beta version of DVDpedia (#37) so that you can use the above workflow directly on Roger Ebert's page by control clicking the title of the movie in his review; those seem to contain a link back to the same article in the name of the movie that appears right at the top of the review. For the next major version I also made it so that the automatic link name is more accurate for that feature.
