Hello Bruji,
Currently I am not an owner, but was wondering about the porting ability from Movie Collectorz to DVDpedia? I currently have been in the LONG process of converting my life over to MAC and one of the draw backs I have found was losing Movie Collectorz (which I really love). I had previously owned (a few years ago), Delicious Library and was not very fond of it. My friend has DVDpedia and I have been playing around with his and seem to like it.
My concern before purchase is what is the simplicity support to move from Collectorz to DVDpedia if any. I do not have an enormous collection, but over 1000 movies means I do not want to re-type everything in. I searched the forum and the most recent post was something about being implemented in a beta, but not in a release (however this was July). I was wondering what I need to pull from Collectorz and what DVDpedia does to help this process along if anything yet.
Thanks,
Don

Re: Porting From Movie Collectorz to DVDpedia
Hi Don,
Glad to hear you are considering DVDpedia. DVDpedia does include a native import of the Movie Collectorz XML file. You can try out the import in the demo version to make sure it's what you expect (it's also a great way to try out DVDpedia's speed with your own collection). From Movie Collectorz use the export command and choose the XML option, this will create a "export.xml" file that you can then drag over the DVDpedia icon on the Dock to import. This XML file does include the path to the cover image for each movie in the tag "<coverfront>"; however, since your coming form the PC this path will be something that only makes sense on the PC. Before running the import you could copy the entire images folder from inside the collectors data folder and update the XML file with a text editor using find and replace all to update the path to the Mac version.
In Vista the folder is at:
\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Collectorz.com\Movie Collector\Images
On Windows XP (hidden, so you need to use the show hidden files and folders option on the sidebar):
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Collectorz.com\Movie Collector\Images
If you copy the Images folder to your desktop you would replace the following in the XML (not absolutley sure how the path is displayed, but look it up in the XML file):
with:
The end result should be a path inside the tags that looks like this:

Re: Porting From Movie Collectorz to DVDpedia
Thanks for the quick response, I will poke around with this tonight and see how ti works out for me. I am probably going to by the 3 bundle (cd, dvd, game) since its a good deal and I have 2600 CDs that are categorized only in an excel file (and itunes and I did play around with importing from itunes into cdpedia, GREAT!).
