I read through the thread part way then thought "Why don't I just turn the firewall off in the Sharing Preferences?"
I did, it synced nicely thank you very much, then I turned the firewall back on.

Unable to Sync
I'm running an Intel mac with 10.4.11 and trying to sync to an iPod Touch. I've tried regular syncing with both systems connected to my wireless network, then created a wireless network for the Touch to connect to. In both cases all I got was a dialog box with "Synchronizing: Requesting Collect...
